“I’ve always loved the feeling that comes from finding the right scent and the way it can say so much about a person,” Urban shares. “I grew up with a father that had great taste in music, cars and colognes. So the idea to eventually create my own fragrance seemed natural.”
Combining the art and science of fragrance and aromatherapy, the psychology of words, the stimulating effects of visual advertising and the heightened anticipation of mysterious marketing, Keith Urban has developed and mysteriously unleashed Phoenix, a leathery gourmand scent described as sexy, rich and masculine.
An interesting and intricate blending of elements, Urban’s most recent composition promises to entice you with top notes of blackberry, cognac and plum. That edgy effect then subtly unfolds middle note aromas of dark chocolate and fir balsam bridging to the renewal of your spirit with lingering base notes of amber, warm cashmere and leather. Where this “not too rugged or not too soft” intoxication of the senses leads remains between the bottle and the chemistry of the parties.
Further unveiling hints of Urban’s love affair with symbolism and Greek mythology, “Phoenix” gives tribute to the Hopi Indian Thunderbird tattoo distinguishing Urban’s left forearm.
“The Thunderbird obviously has close ties to the Phoenix,” Keith shares. “I’ve always loved symbolism and mythology – the symbolism of the phoenix being something that succumbs to the challenges and burns in the fire but then is resurrected from the ashes and rises up from the ashes even stronger than before. The ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ story of the phoenix is something else that I think fits really well with a man’s cologne.”
That’s certainly a lot of Keith Urban thought, planning and symbolism that went into the creation of Phoenix. But Urban methodically seems to have weeded through a plethora of flora that could have hindered the scent of this project. The product’s name was also of great concern to this perfumer perfectionaire.
“The last thing I want to make a man do is: When someone asks him what he’s wearing is for that poor man to say, ‘I’m wearing Keith Urban,’” he confesses. “That just seems really awkward to me. I wanted to allow a man the dignity to respond with something that is a little more appropriate. Not too hoity-toity, not too chic and metro, something that’s got a nice, masculine simplicity to it. I felt ‘Phoenix’ fit that really well.”
A considerate thought indeed. I concur with the symbolism and the “simple masculine” name.
Phoenix currently makes its debut with an exclusive online pre-sale at KeithUrban.net. Additionally, fans can get a sneak peek of Phoenix during Keith’s Get Closer Tour.
